The Captain’s dayroom
company had added to its fleet its
tenth ship, and its first motorvessel.
The LUDOLF OLDENDORFF did 15.9
knots in ballast condition. Her 2,700
HP two-stroke MAN diesel engine
gives her a fully laden speed of up
to 14 knots. Her modern equipment
includes a Decca radar set, a ‘Tele
gon’ goniometer first introduced in
1952 and a complete radio station,
all supplied by DEBEG. The vessel
has also been fitted with an echo
sounder. The radar set pays for
itself within three days of dense fog
when the ship would otherwise be
forced to idle, assuming a loss per
fog-bound day of DM 10,000.”
