Shikoku Dockyard supplied two
smaller singledeckers of 18,000 tdw
each in 1994. The ships, named the
ERNA OLDENDORFF (5) and ANNA
OLDENDORFF (3) were each fitted
with four 30 tonnes deck cranes.
In addition, Senator Linie and DSR
commenced a joint end-to-end
service from the Continent to South
East Asia and back which enabled the
RTW ships to bypass Khor Fakkan.
The RTW fleet consisted of 24 ships
ranging from 1,800 to 2,200 TEU
chartered for periods of up to seven
years, whereas six smaller vessels
served the South East Asian trade.

It transpired in mid-1991 that Senator
Linie had landed a major coup by
period-chartering, at favourable
rates, ten containerships ordered
from Western German shipyards
by the Baltic Shipping Company,
then still part of the Soviet Russian
shipping combine. The Tricon
partners offered weekly sailings from
early 1991. Cho Yang commissioned
a series of 2,700 TEU newbuildings
at short intervals, and DSR had
managed to increase the size of the
six containerships they had ordered
also from Western German yards
from 2,000 to 2,700 TEU.
