RUNNING WITH
WOLVES
We can be aggressive. We are hungry for
the next deal. We’ll hunt down and beat
competitors. But the reason we often
succeed is that we act together.
At Oldendorff Carriers everybody is fiercely commercial about getting the
best deal, while at the same time achieving benefits for our cargo clients.
However there is no room for egotism. Just because you want to create the best
commercial outcome does not mean you keep it just to yourself. That kind of
attitude is rife across the financial world, but it doesn’t work for Oldendorff.
If one Oldendorff team sees an opportunity that another team is better placed
to exploit, they will pass it over. What matters is that the company benefits,
not the individual. Of course, there is rivalry; but there is also a commercial
pragmatism that dictates that the company acts to create the best deal –
regardless of who contributed.
No one tells Oldendorffers to do this; it’s just what they do. These may be
mavericks – but they are also mavericks who understand the importance of
working as a team.
Henning refers to Peter and his immediate chair of directors as “Peter and the
Wolves”. They are fierce predators but they also know they are more effective
when hunting in a pack.
